Privacy notice
Last updated 2026-10-17. Written for UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
The controller is Snuffle Society. Email hello@snufflesociety.co.uk. Postal address: available on request — email hello@snufflesociety.co.uk.
What we collect
- Newsletter. If you sign up, we receive your email address and the fact that you asked to hear from us. The form sends it to our email provider, Kit (kit.com), which emails you a link to confirm. You are only added once you click it. Until the list is connected, the form stores nothing.
- Sponsor payments. If you pay for a listing, Stripe processes the payment. We receive whatever Stripe shares with the account holder, typically a name, email and the fact of payment. We do not see your full card number.
- Hosting logs. The host, Vercel, may log IP address, browser and pages requested, to keep the site running.
- Visit counts. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and clicks on Amazon links (which page and which product). It sets no cookies. Vercel says it does not store IP addresses and identifies visits only with a short-lived hash that resets daily, so we cannot tell who you are. We only see totals.
- Affiliate clicks. If you follow an Amazon link, Amazon handles that visit under its own policy. We do not receive your Amazon account.
Why, and the lawful basis
- Newsletter: consent. You can withdraw it by unsubscribing or emailing us.
- Sponsor emails: steps prior to a contract, then contract.
- Host logs: legitimate interests in security and fixing broken pages.
- Visit counts: legitimate interests in knowing which guides are useful.
Who else sees it
Our email provider, Kit (kit.com), which stores newsletter addresses and sends the emails. Stripe, if you pay. Amazon, if you click an affiliate link. The host. Each of those organisations is responsible for what it does with data on its own systems. They may process data outside the UK. Read their privacy notices for the safeguard they use.
How long we keep it
Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Sponsor correspondence stays as long as we need it for tax and in case of a dispute. We do not run a separate marketing list from people who only read the site.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, erasure, restriction, or a portable copy, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. Email hello@snufflesociety.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. If you run a newsletter you may need to pay the ICO data protection fee. Check the current rules before you launch.
Children
The site is written for adult pet owners. We do not knowingly collect children’s data.
